In Draw 3, a stock action turns up to three cards onto the waste.

Only the top card of the dealt packet can be played first.

If the packet appears as 6♥, J♣, 3♠ in deal order, 3♠ is on top and controls access. The useful distinction is between a card that looks possible and a move that satisfies every condition at once.

How the rule works

When fewer than three cards remain, the last packet contains only one or two cards.

PlaySoli allows unlimited stock passes in both Draw 1 and Draw 3.

A card can be visible on screen and still be unavailable because another card controls access to it.

Draw 3 adds an access puzzle to ordinary Klondike. The order inside each packet and the cards removed during a pass determine what will be playable on the next pass.

A good Draw 3 plan names the card to remove now and the card that should become exposed later; merely cycling the stock repeats the same obstruction.

Worked card examples

The cards below turn the rule into a position you can verify rather than a phrase to memorize.

With 6♥ below J♣ below 3♠, moving 3♠ exposes J♣; moving J♣ then exposes 6♥.

Check both the immediate connection and the card that will become available after the move. That second consequence is often where two apparently similar choices diverge.

Seeing 6♥ in the packet does not make it playable while J♣ and 3♠ still lie above it.

The counterexample matters just as much: it shows which single condition fails and prevents an accidental rule from being learned.

A reliable check before moving

Before committing the move, run three separate checks:

  1. Identify the top card of the current packet before planning around the cards beneath it.
  2. Verify that the destination satisfies every rank, color, suit, and space rule that applies.
  3. Look at the position after the move: what becomes exposed, blocked, or newly usable?

If all three checks pass, make the move and reassess the new endpoints. A legal move can change access, available workspace, and the value of the next legal move.

How to use this at the table

Use the rule as a small decision procedure, not as an isolated sentence. Identify the available card, test its destination, and then inspect what the move uncovers or consumes.

To test the explanation on a live deal, open Play Klondike Draw 3 and reproduce the card example before extending the plan.
